New Nokia Mobile Phones

Nokia 6600 Fold Joins 3 Mobile as Exclusive Mobile Phone

Posted by: Mobile Phones on: September 4, 2008

Nokia have now launched one of of their latest double acts, the 6600 Fold is the flip version of the Nokia 6600 which is also to feature a sliding model, this is likely to cause some confusion as both models are to be called the 6600 with only the ‘Fold’ or ‘Slide’ to determine which is which.

The Nokia 6600 Fold has been exclsuively launched by the 3G dedicated network 3 Mobile in the UK, this means that consumers can only buy this new flip phone with a 3 Mobile contract deal for a limited time period. These time frames can last for just a couple of days through to months based on the agreement signed between the manufacturer and the network.

Available as a clamshell or slider, the Nokia 6600 is accompanied by the Nokia 3600 Slide in Nokia’s latest fashion lineup.

The Nokia 6600 Fold features the same ability as the Nokia 6600 Slide in terms of being able to control snooze, alerts, silences and the rejection of incoming calls by simple tapping the body of the phone twice.

Boasting Nokia Maps and Nokia Search, the Nokia 6600 Fold offers a complete entertainment package that includes a 2 mega pixel camera with inbuilt flash and video recording capabilities plus a secondary videocall camera and a music player accompanied by the presence of an integrated stereo FM radio.

The 18MB internal memory can be boosted up to 4GB via the microSD card slot to provide ample storage capacity and in terms of connectivity the Nokia 6600 Fold is pretty well equipped there as well with GSM, GPRS, EDGE and 3G along with bluetooth wireless and USB connectivity.

Available in a choice of either Mysterious Black or Sophisticated Purple, the Nokia 6600 Fold has been designed for a more comfortable fit in your hand and against the face when making calls courtesy of its rounded and more blended contours.

The phones glossy finish and 1.3″ external hidden display are the first indication of just how much effort has gone into the phone’s design and opens to reveal an internal 2.13″ OLED display which is great for viewing images, browse online and checking emails without the need to squint.

The Nokia 6600 Fold is also to be released in further colour schemes including an already announced purple edition, as and when the network exclusive period is finished consumers will then be able to connect the handset to other UK networks as they recieve their stocks.

Nokia N95 8GB Compared Against Nokia N95 4GB

Posted by: Mobile Phones on: January 16, 2008

The Nokia N95 was first released last year and was given rave reviews by many a mobile phone enthusiast, so the news that a new 8GB model was to be released got a lot of people very excited. The first obvious change present in the N95 8GB is the colour of the external casing, the original model was released in silver and plum editions but the 8GB version is presented in a matt black finish, bundled with the handset is the Spiderman 3 movie where the evil, out of space black alien takes over Spiderman and turns his super hero suit to black so the phone and the movie go hand in hand, clever marketing Nokia.

Nokia N95 8GB

The next big change on the new model is that the main display screen has been enlarged from 2.6 to 2.8 inches, that may not sound like a major change but it allows for bigger text for those with poor eyesight as well as enhancing the experience whilst watching movies and videos on the handset.

One thing that any original Nokia N95 user will appreciate is that the new 8GB edition has an increased battery life, this was one of the main problems aired by users and it seems that the manufacturer has listened to their woes. The longer battery life meant that the battery itself had to be bigger and so the rear of the handset has had to be redesigned to incorporate the extra space.

The new N95 8GB features the same high specification 5.0 megapixel camera with digital zoom, flash, video record facility and Carl Zeiss optics but now adds a new lens cover for protecting the lens whilst not in use.

Another gripe of the original N95 users was that when the handset was in the slide position exposing th dedicated media keys, because of their close proximity to the main bulk of the phone they found it difficult to access them and sometimes ended up pressing more than one button at a time. Nokia have fixed this problem by actually raising the keys so that even in poor light conditions the user can still locate the buttons with their digits.

Another enhancement is the introduction of N-gage gaming, first seen in the original N-Gage mobile phone, with superb features, amazing graphics and top of the range games specifically designed for advanced mobile devices the handset can be used in the landscape position and the main controls buttons used as a D-pad for game play.

The 8GB memory is the most obvious improvement, this extra space is without doubt a must for some mobile phone users, especially those that enjoy their music. Market research suggests that some owners of stand alone Mp3 players find that there simply is not enough memory to store all of their favorite albums and tracks that they have collected over the years, the massive 8Gb memory of the new N95 put pay to that with more space than most other mobile devices. This same problems applies to movie buffs as well, movies obviously take up more memory than 3-5 minute music tracks so fans of watching movies on their mobile phone will welcome the extra storage space.

The new Nokia N95 8GB looks to be the result of a manufacturer listening to their customers, it is a marked improvement on the original N95 and with the extra features and technology rightly takes its place at the top of the N-Series tree.

Nokia 8800 Arte Is Latest Nokia 8800 Mobile Phone

Posted by: Mobile Phones on: January 5, 2008

The new Nokia 8800 Arte has been released today on O2 by The CPW Group. This new handset is the direct upgrade to the Nokia 8800 Sirocco and features a new exterior design, new technology and new materials – Check it out:

Nokia 8800 Arte

Nokia use their internal model numbering system to differentiate between phones with certain characteristics, such as the Nokia 1-Series which is classed as a budget phone range mostly available as affordable pay as you go packages, and the 9-Series handsets which are very much aimed at business users and professionals for their connectivity, applications and PDA-like features.

The 8-Series range however is a different kettle of fish altogether, the first handsets to be launched in the range some years ago were models like the Nokia 8910, a sleek, sliding phone manufactured from premium materials for external elegance but not hot on the latest features. Another diamond of the range was the much coveted Nokia 8800, the original of this model was manufactured using Chrome as a shiny metallic surface to exude expense and worth, but it lacked in features and the 8-Series handsets were soon seen purely as fashion items and phones to be seen with rather than serious mobile devices. It was said that those that purchased and flaunted their Nokia 8-Series was a man with more money than sense.

More recently the 8-Series has born the Nokia 8800 Sirocco collection, the manufacturer claimed that the phones were named after the winds that whistle through the Sahara desert although what that has to do with a mobile phone is anyones guess. The 8800 Sirocco had three editions, a Silver, Black and more exclusive Gold casing was added to stir the pockets of those wealthy enough to be able to afford one. Again the features and technology were not as advanced as the N-Series range which showcases the manufacturers latest innovations, they were more about looks than power.

And so we come to the present day where the Nokia 8800 Arte has finally arrived on the UK shores to tempt us once again, but is their any difference in the overall ethos behind this new model? Does it offer some more advanced features rather than just a pretty facade? Well, you may be surprised.

Previous Nokia 8800 handsets haven’t exactly bowled us over with their abilities but the ‘Arte’ duo has changed that, 3G enabled phones, both the 8800 Arte and Sapphire Arte come with 3 mega pixel camera’s, autofocus functions and video recording capabilities. No phone is complete without an MP3 Player onboard and these new handsets are no exception and to add to this they both come with a 1GB memory to boot.

Apart from 3G Connectivity, the new Nokia 8800 duo boast EDGE Technology, Bluetooth Wireless and microUSB connectivity. The WAP Browser enables access to a wide range of online content plus with instant access to emails, even when you are out of the office you are not far away from your desk.

Each with their own codename, Virginia for the Nokia 8800 Sapphire Arte and Gina for the Nokia 8800 Arte, they are pretty much identical apart from the Sapphire Crystal that the Sapphire Arte proudly boasts in the centre of the navigation pad and its delicious Brown finish, whereas the Arte version is available in a stylish Black but does not sport any crystal.

Nokia 8800 Sapphire Arte

Surprisingly the panels on both phones have been covered in goat hide delicately embossed and the casing has been coated to provide extra protection. Additional features include a Turn-to-Mute function, Accelerometer, portable docking station, built-in handsfree, noise cancellation bluetooth headset and touch sensitive volume control.

It would seem that Nokia are indeed listening to the customer and including extra features into the new 8-Series models, they still offer the fashionable looks expected from the range but with the extra features and technology the Nokia 8800 Arte phones are a far more attractive offering to anyone who appreciates the elegance of these beautiful mobile phones.

Nokia N95 8GB New on 3 – Vodafone N95 8Gb Exclusive Over

Posted by: Mobile Phones on: January 3, 2008

The Nokia N95 8GB on 3 Mobile Network UK.

Vodafone are becoming very good at sealing exclusive deals with the top mobile manufacturers to launch new products for a limited time frame. This ensures the operator is the only outlet where a customer can get the new handset connected and further boosts their credibility within the industry. However, this can be bad news for consumers as the limited amount of tariffs could mean that they are not getting exactly the right combination of free minutes and text to suit their usage requirements.

A typical example of this scenario has just played out with the new Nokia N95 8GB, Vodafone originally launched the phone as an exclusive handset over a month ago and so any customers wanting to purchase this upgraded model had to connect it to the Vodafone network.

Nokia N95 8GB on 3 Three

This is now no longer the case as the exclusive period has now expired and the 8GB N95 is now available from two new networks, O2 and 3 Mobile – also known as Three network. The latter is probably of most importance as the operator offers far more free minutes and text messages than any other UK network giving the consumer the best value for money, add to this the fact that 3 Mobile are offering the 8 gigabite N95 from Free with a £30.00 per month line rental tariff and you can begin to see the benefits for yourself.

The upgraded N95 holds many of the original features and specification of the previous model, however there have been some cosmetic as well as technical advancements made to this high end N-Series handset.

The first thing a savvy consumer will notice is that the 8GB version is only available in a black coloured casing to distinguish it from the original model, but on closer inspection the layout has also been changed to accommodate some new hardware and dimensions. The main display screen has been enlarged to a substantial 2.8 inches which now dominates the front fascia of the handset, this makes for easy reading and typing of text messages especially for those with not so good eyesight, it also makes viewing video downloads, pictures and movies far easier on the eye and now feels that it could be a contender for a ‘real’ multimedia device to rival standalone products.

The most obvious change from the original N95 is contained within the new model name, 8GB. This new extended memory is a godsend for photographic enthusiasts, music lovers, film buffs and business users as the extra space allows for far more file saving and downloading capabilities. Music lovers in particular are excited by this memory upgrade as most have used an 8 gigabite standalone MP3 player and now can upload their entire collection of tracks and albums to their mobile phone.

The battery life has also been extended in this new model but not without sacrifice, the battery has had to be enlarged meaning that the reverse of the handset has had to be slightly redesigned to accommodate.

In conclusion, the presence of this new model alongside the expiry of the exclusive period with Vodafone is exciting news for consumers, with new tariff options from O2 and 3 Mobile plus the extra capacity and functionality of the upgraded model the Nokia N95 8GB is a high end product which now falls within most peoples budgets when looking for a new mobile phone.

Nokia N82 – Is it the Top Camera Phone of 2007?

Posted by: Mobile Phones on: December 29, 2007

Is the Nokia N82 a REAL contender for top camera phone or does the Cybershot range from Sony Ericsson still Rule the Roost?

Supremacy in the camera phone market is a coveted place, it means maximum sales for quality products with extra revenue streams from mobile content such as downloads and new applications.

Sony Ericsson have held dominance over the top spot for months with the emergence of their Cybershot range of handsets otherwise known as the K-Series, the latest of which is the Sony Ericsson K850i with a 5 megapixel camera, autofocus and integrated flash.

Nokia have never really competed in this niche market until very recently with their latest release, the Nokia N82. As a part of the N-Series phone range is offers the very best in design, technology and features available from the manufacturer but is also the most powerful and fully functional camera phone to come out of their research and development laboratories.

The phone offers a new, fast return to ready status that is usually only found in standalone cameras, this quick action allows users to take multiple pictures in half the time of previous models. This has always been as problem with mobile phone cameras, after a user captures a photograph they have to wait anywhere up to twenty seconds before the device returns to ready for another picture. The Nokia N82 does this in half the time which makes the phone ideal for journalists and camera enthusiasts who need to capture scenes fast and with high quality.

Nokia N82

With this new technology the N82 can now really rival the Sony Ericsson Cybershot range, the K-Series has dominated the camera phone market purely for the name Cybershot, if a customer was looking for a camera orientated handset then the Cybershot range would be the first place to look.

The N82 also offers a high quality 5 megapixel camera with Carl Zeiss optics and autofocus, there is also a Xenon flash producing far more light than the standard LED flashes and 20 x digital zoom for close up photography. The camera can also record video clips at 30 frames per second producing high quality, smooth moving images to download and share plus as the N82 is a 3G enabled handset there is also a secondary camera facilitating face to face video calling with compatible handsets.

The Nokia N82 has been launched as a Carphone Warehouse exclusive handset and is only currently available on O2 as either a contract phone or as a pay as you go phone. The CPW group will be launching the handset on other networks soon and there are also some further colour schemes planned, including a titanium and black edition. It will be some weeks before other networks and retailers are able to get their hands on this new handset, until the initial exclusive period has expired the CPW group will continue to be the only sales outlet for the device.

Will Nokia be able to tempt existing Cybershot users away from a product that they trust? Well with the rave reviews that the Nokia N82 is already recieving it seems that it may well be taking a chunk out of Sony Ericssons dominance over the camera phone market.

Nokia N82 on O2 Joins Nokia N-Series Phone Range

Posted by: Mobile Phones on: December 29, 2007

The new Nokia N82 has been officially released on O2 contract deals in the UK.

N-Series handsets are in a different class to the rest of the Nokia range of mobile phones, these specialist phones have features that cannot be found on other models as well as very different designs and the very latest technology.

N-Series relates only to the Nokia mobile phone models that start with the letter ‘N’, these include the likes of N91, N81, N76, N95 and the latest addition N82.

The manufacturer uses the range to showcase their latest creations to come out of their research and development department with features such as 5 megapixel camera lenses, new software applications, designs such as the twist and flip of the N92 and expanded internal memory such as with the Nokia N95 8GB.

Some models are music orientated whist others cater for users who primary use of their handset is as a camera. The newest addition to the range is the Nokia N82 which recently launched in a titanium casing.

Nokia N82 on O2 UK

This new model is concentrates more on digital photography and video, offering a 5 megapixel camera and fast video capture.

The Nokia N95 has, for a long-time, been the premier camera phone on the market and the recent 8GB updated version has seen its position consolidated and strengthened with the addition of a larger screen as well as the increased memory.

With the new Nokia N82, it looks like the Finnish manufacturer is looking to move itself further ahead of the pack. Like the N95 it possesses a 5MP Carl-Zeiss optics camera, however with the inclusion of a Xenon flash the intentions are clear, to establish Nokia as the premier camera phone company.

With the recent release of theis new handset, we can now get a better idea of what the N82 should be capable of and how it ranks alongside the increasing number of competitors in a congested market.

Capability wise, the N82 is almost identical to Nokia’s original flagship N95 coming with 3G HSDPA, Wi-Fi, 100mb of integrated memory, microSD slot (a 2Gb card is likely to be supplied in the retail package) and built-in AGPS. As well as this, Automatic UI rotation has been added enabling automatic screen rotation when the phone is held in either portrait or landscape mode, somewhat similar to the K850i from Sony Ericsson.

One feature that is likely to divide opinion, is the keypad which is reminiscent of the N91, and Sony Ericsson’s W880i, as the keys are thin and long, which for some could prove an irritation.

For a phone that packs in such large amount of features it’s no surprise that the N82 is a quite large handset, as it has similar dimensions to the above-mentioned K850i, though is marginally wider and taller. A large handset does have its advantages though, as it makes some users feel more comfortable when using the handset and can also encourage the use of stronger materials during manufacturing.

Though not currently available for general release and therefore not for an in-depth review, the N82 is shaping up to be Nokia’s next flagship model. If it improves upon the photo quality of the N95, it is likely to become the best camera mobile phone on the market.

Nokia N82 Pay As You Go Exclusive

Posted by: Mobile Phones on: December 29, 2007

Nokia N82 on Pay As You Go Exclusive Release.
The mobile phones market is a fickle and cut throat industry, retailers and networks come under constant scrutiny for high pricing and contract obligations. A common move is for retailers to keep a new mobile phone release strictly available only to contract customers which ties them into either a 12 or 18 month contract period and so generates far more revenue than a simple pay as you go (prepay) or sim free (unconnected) sale.

So to see a new phone launch, in particular a high end model onto the pay as you go network is a very surprising but welcome move. The new Nokia N82 is a mobile phone firmly marketed for its camera technology, a phone that will appeal to anyone who would rather take just one device with them when leaving their home. Mobile phone camera technology has come on in leaps and bounds which means that the top end models now offer similar quality pictures and video capture to that of stand alone cameras, a cunning ploy by the phone manufacturers to encourage us to just consider the one device for all of our needs.

Nokia N82 on Pay As You Go

The Nokia N82 was originally released onto the O2 network just days ago before surprisingly making an appearance on pay as you go, this firm of connection means that the customer is not tied into any lengthy contract period, they simply buy call time and text messages from local stockists, online or directly through the handsets services.

There is big demand for pay as you go phones as a large percentage of customers cannot pass the credit criteria needed to own a contract phone, the thresholds are set by the individual networks and differ from provider to provider, however all of the companies have access to and use the details held on file at credit reference agencies to make their decisions when taking on contract customers.

This means that if a customer has experienced credit problems in the past that have been documented then their options for owning a mobile phone are limited to either a pay as you go or sim free deal.

When buying a pay as you go phone the price is not subsidised as it is with a contract deal and can work out expensive, especially if the customer is a heavy user. The minutes and texts cost more than on a contract deal and so the overall price of ownership and usage is far greater. The second of two new N Series handsets, the Nokia N82 lends itself more towards being a camera phone, rather than a music phone, for all those budding photographers out there.

Featuring a sleek candy bar design, the Nokia N82, as with the Nokia N81 8GB, is a Symbian S60 3rd Edition device with some powerful abilities.

The integrated camera is no less than 5.0 mega pixels and includes Carl Zeiss lens with autofocus, 20x digital zoom and a Xenon Flash plus has the ability to capture 30 fps (frames per second) when video recording plus its own built-in camera protection and a secondary camera for video calling.

Although the Nokia N82 does not offer the storage capacity of that of the N81 with 8GB of flash memory, the N82 has taken care of this with the assistance of microSD card expansion.

The Nokia N82 is a Quad Band 3G handset with EDGE and HSDPA support and in addition offers WiFi and Bluetooth with A2DP Stereo support.

Other hidden gems include an integrated GPS Receiver, built-in FM Radio and TV Out whilst being the successor to none other than the Nokia N73.

With plenty to boast about and a sexy design, the Nokia N82 is both a stunner and an extremely strong competitor for any other phone, let alone camera phone on the market.

So when a new mobile phone, especially of the calibre of the new Nokia N82 appears on pay as you go, it is a very welcome addition for those who are limited to the pay as you go network.

Nokia 6500 Gold / Nokia 6500 Bronze

Posted by: Mobile Phones on: December 9, 2007

Gold is rare, nothing new there, but gold coloured mobile phones are even rarer with only five models currently available on the UK market.

Gold phones are usually released as limited edition handsets and only available for a short amount of time as they are only made in small quantities, the last gold Nokia phone on offer was the Nokia 8800 Sirocco Gold Edition which was available for around a total of just five months but is making a brief appearance again now.

Nokia 6500 Classic Gold Bronze

Weight: 94g

Talktime: 5.5 h

Standby time: 300 h

Dimensions: 109.8 x 45 x 9.5 mm

The Nokia 6500 Classic Gold is actually a remake of an older handset release some 5 years ago also called the 6500, Nokia are the first manufacturer to attempt releasing a new handset with the same model number as an old one, but in this day of retro chic it does seem to be the way things are going from clothes to electricals, the older designs are coming back from the dead and wowing audiences once more.

The new Nokia 6500 Classic is the thinnest Nokia mobile phone ever released measuring a mere 9.5mm, the next closest model is the 6300 at 11mm, the 6500 Classic may well be named after an older model but it offers todays high specification features packed into a highly desirable casing.

To start their is a 2.0 megapixel camera with a flash for poor light conditions, a digital zoom for close up photography and support for video recording and playback of short video clips. For music lovers their is an MP3 Player which can be filled with music tracks by either uploading from a PC using a USB cable or downloaded direct from the mobile internet before arranging tracks into playlists.

The 6500 is 3G enabled which allows for extremely fast download speeds and viewing of streaming media, 3G services include access to the latest news headlines, weather reports, new movie trailers and music videos before their release. 3G also provides a huge database of new mobile content such as games, themes, ringtones and wallpapers as well as new applications for compatible devices.

There is a second camera situated on the front of the Nokia 6500 Gold which together with 3G allows the user to make and receive face to face video calls where callers can actually see as well as hear the person they are talking with. This same technology opens up many new avenues of opportunity such as business use for sharing locations and experiences with the office whilst out in the field.

Bluetooth is also present which can be useful for hands free driving by connecting the 6500 to headsets and car kits wirelessly keeping the drivers hands firmly and safely on the steering wheel, as well as connecting with other compatible devices for file sharing and presentation.

The new Gold Edition of the Nokia 6500 is a part of the Classic range of Nokia phones that also includes the 6120 Classic pink and White plus the 6500 Slide, a slide variant with slightly higher specifications and features.
